Harry Benedict was "a great sportsman," and was Captain of the Yale Gun Club while in Yale. (graduated 1896). He was a member of the Yale Corinthian Yacht Club, also of Psi Upsilon fraternity and the select senior society of Scroll and Key. A very popular young man, and winters was house guest of the Carneigies and Flaglers at their island homes off the coast of Palm Beach.

CFH-HAC-cB. Paul Maltby Benedict, b. July 2, 1877 (Eleanor 7, Geo.W.6, Augustus 5, Stephen 4, Benj.3, Dan.2, Wm.1). He was a delicate child and impossible for regular attendance at school. He was keenly interested in Science, especially astronomy and had his own observatory at the family summer residence "Beacon Heights," East Haven, a lovely estate situated high on a hill overlooking the New Haven Sound. He ground some of his lenses--a long and tedious process. He was working along the same lines as Marconi on wireless, but he said lack of higher mathematics and proper preparation made it impossible for him to get very far. He spent most winters at Paul Smiths',Saranac, New York in the Adirondacks, here he met Miss Elsi Brown whom he married, Sept. 20, 1900. She died in 1918, and he married (2) his hospital nurse. His father gave him his home on St. Ronan Terrace, New Haven. The winter of 1895-6, he, his sister Helen, with their mother, spent in Dresden, Germany, in the same pension as were my mother, sister, and myself. He had no children.

CFH-HAC-cc. Helen Davenport Benedict, b. May 17, 1880 (Eleanor 7, Geo.W.6, Augustus 5, Stephen 4, Benj.3, Dan.2, Wm.1). A popular girl in New Haven society. She attended Miss Johnstone's School on Whitney Avenue, where I was an older pupil. Our intimacy in Germany, 1895/6, is one of my happy memories. In the winter, Jan. 9, 1906, she married Bayard Barnes of New Haven, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Henry Barnes of Chapel Street. Mrs. Barnes was Esther Post. Mr. Barnes was of the firm of Sperry and Barnes.

The latter part of their married life they resided in Switzerland.

After the death of their eldest son, at Geneva, they returned to the States. He died some years ago, and I believe Helen died about 1953, but her daughter will not reply to letters.
